What a fantastic learning opportunity!  The premise of this fascinating kit is to give kids an opportunity to dig for real gemstones. They are treasure hunters with a small small chunk of some sort of plaster that resembles earth/dirt. Included are small digging tools. As they slowly break apart the earth/dirt, there are 15 different kinds of gem stones. When each stone is uncovered, the child can refer to the information booklet to identify its name and type and further information about the gems. And of course, the gems are authentic. National Geographic is a reputable organization, and this kit demonstrates the organizations values by proving authentic learning experience.
